Trash Truck Hits Pole in New Hanover

NEW HANOVER – A trash truck (above) owned by hauler Whitetail Disposal of Perkiomenville PA struck and partially severed a utility pole Thursday (May 21, 2020) shortly after 4:45 a.m. just outside the Frederick PA post office (top) at the intersection of Big, Renninger, Hoffmansville, and New Hanover Square roads, according to New Hanover Township Police.

Few details were available on the incident. It appeared no one was injured. The trash truck ended up parked only yards away, on the north shoulder of westbound Big Road.

An officer for the department said there was heavy leakage of hydraulic fluid on the highway. To eliminate hazards volunteers from New Hanover Fire and Rescue Services (above) spread many containers of absorbent material – some of which later arrived in a Whitetail pick-up truck – and then swept and removed the waste.

Two New Hanover Fire Police units also were dispatched, and intermittently stopped traffic for brief periods on Big Road as firefighters went about their work.
