Responders Rescue Child Locked Inside Home

GETTING BACK IN – A 3-year-old child, who inadvertently closed an open but locked front door while his caregiver stepped out Monday (May 11, 2020) onto the front porch of the single-family home at 35 Blackberry Dr. in Sanatoga, was stranded alone inside while the woman left outside called for help. Lower Pottsgrove Police and volunteers from the Sanatoga and Ringing Hill fire companies responded to the scene at about 12:40 p.m., and erected ladders at both the front and rear sides of the house. They hoped to gain entry through lower or upper windows but found they, too, were locked. An electronic door opener for the garage didn’t work either. Ultimately, according to police, firefighters gained entry by disassembling a portion of the door handle and lock itself. They re-opened the home to find the child safe, secure, and oblivious to the panic he created.
