Alleged Thief Charged For Running Away In Shoes

NORTH COVENTRY PA – A 32-year-old man was cited Thursday (July 4, 2019) by North Coventry police on a charge of retail theft for literally running away with shoes.

Police arrested Eutimio Herrera Melchor, whose hometown was not reported, after loss prevention personnel at the Gabe’s department store in Coventry Mall on Route 724 alleged he had taken a pair of blue-colored Nike shoes without paying for them.

Store security alleged Herrera Melchor selected the pair of Nikes, valued at $49, and “put the shoes on his feet,” according to the police department’s CrimeWatch website. He “then exited the store, passing all points of sale, without offering payment for the merchandise.

The security staff apparently detained the man once he was outside the store. Police said they took him into custody and transported him to the Pottstown Police Department, where he was processed, received the summary citation, and released.
