NORTH COVENTRY PA – Michael J. Stewart, the driver of a vehicle that North Coventry Township police allege was speeding and swerving in the travel lane of westbound U.S. Route 422 near South Keim Street, has been arrested in part for driving under the influence of alcohol, the department announced Wednesday (July 4, 2018) on its website.
Officers said they first observed, then “clocked Stewart traveling at 73 (miles per hour)” in a zone with a posted speed limit of 40 mph. After stopping the vehicle, police said “Stewart had bloodshot, glassy eyes and slurred speech,” and later “admitted to consuming alcohol and agreed to submit to field sobriety testing.” He failed the test, they reported.
Stewart was taken into custody and later submitted for a formal breath test, which revealed his blood alcohol level reached 0.175 percent.
Neither Stewart’s home address or age were provided in the report. Police said the incident occurred June 24 (Sunday).
