NORTH COVENTRY PA – Two 18-year-old males who are listed as Pottstown residents await preliminary hearings, scheduled for June 18 before Magisterial District Justice John Hipple, following their arrests by the North Coventry Police Department for allegedly receiving stolen property and other charges, according to court docket sheets..
Taken into custody were Nicholas Angelo of Pottstown and Michael Newman of Stowe. Angelo also was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and was released on unsecured bail of $5,000. Newman additionally was charged with possessing a small amount of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia; he has unable to post 10 percent of $5,000 cash bail and was jailed in Chester County Prison.
According to the department website, police said they were called Thursday (June 7, 2018; the time was not mentioned) to the Norco Apartments, 1400 E. Schuylkill Rd., regarding a report that a man was damaging a vehicle there. They arrived to find the pair occupying a vehicle parked next to a vehicle that was damaged. Police alleged they “could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle” while talking with the two.
Police then checked the license plate of the vehicle, learned it was stolen, and arrested Angelo and Newman. Officers then found “a cigar filled with marijuana” inside the vehicle, according to the report, prompting added charges against Newman.
Both were temporarily housed at the Pottstown Police Department until they were arraigned, the department indicated.
