New Garden, Artwork Installed At Riverfront Park
ATTRACTING POLLINATORS, AND PEOPLE TOO – A new pollinator garden and artwork were installed this month at Pottstown’s Riverfront Park, College Drive, by volunteers (above) of and with support from the Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area, the borough of Pottstown, and the children of Centro Cultural Latinos Unidos. Together they helped with planting, digging, weeding and watering, according to the greenways’ newsletter. Artist Becky Morris carved series of panels titled “A Glimpse of the Schuylkill River,” for the project. The garden is not only decorative, but will serve to draw bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other creatures who help grow flowers and food by carrying pollen from one plant to another. About 75 percent of major food crops reportedly depend on pollination. National Pollinator Week is observed June 18-24 (2018).
