DOUGLASSVILLE PA – A Pottstown couple (at top) has been arrested on drug-related and other charges by Amity police after their car – with its occupants asleep, the engine running, and the driver’s foot on the brake – was found stopped in the middle of the intersection at Briarwood Drive and Nicholson Avenue, three blocks west of Old Swede Road.
Discovered in the rear seat was a third passenger: a 6-year-old girl.
Placed into custody Sunday (Feb. 11, 2018) at about 1 a.m. were the driver, Akil Headen, 31, and passenger Kirsten Back, 26. “Headen was found to be in possession of a firearm, methamphetamine, oxycodone, alprazolam, and drug paraphernalia. Back was found to be in possession of marijuana, alprazolam, and drug paraphernalia,” according to the department’s website.
Police say they responded early Sunday to the report of a suspicious vehicle, later determined to be a black-colored Kia Soul, at the center of the intersection. Arriving officers found all three, including the child, asleep. The report did not offer further details of the circumstances, or an explanation of where the pair was headed, or why or when they stopped.
Both were charged with multiple drug offenses, police said. Additionally, Headen faces a firearm offense, and Back also was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
The girl was placed with another family member.
