Pottstown Police Seek Help In Shooting Thursday

POTTSTOWN PA – Pottstown police are looking for help from the public as they investigate a shooting that occurred early Thursday (May 18, 2017) at 12:35 a.m. near Chestnut and Washington streets. A 17-year-old girl, who they believe was not an intended victim, was struck in the hand by gunfire, department Capt. Robert R. Thomas said.

The girl’s injury is not life-threatening, the captain added, but did require emergency treatment. She left the scene before police arrived, and was taken to Pottstown Memorial Medical Center by a private vehicle. Her name has not been released.

Now a hunt is on for the shooter or shooters involved.

Ballistic evidence located and collected at or near the scene indicates several rounds were fired. Investigators also have determined several subjects were within the area at the time, both on foot and in vehicles, according to Thomas. “The motive of the shooting has not yet been determined,” he said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Det. Heather Long or Det. Mark Wickersham, in the Pottstown Police Detective Division, at 610-970-6570.
