POTTSTOWN PA – The latest thieves in Pottstown are working with a strategy specifically designed to determine who’s not paying attention to detail. In these cases, the detail is locking up a parked vehicle.
Borough police said Thursday (June 25, 2015) they were encountering a rash of thefts from unlocked cars, spread across several neighborhoods. Officers know how the thieves are finding their victims, too, they reported on the department’s Facebook page.
Investigators have already screened video from a residential surveillance camera that shows two subjects, one each walking on opposite sides of a row of cars, testing door handles to see if they’ll open readily.
“PLEASE LOCK YOUR VEHICLES!,” the department pleaded with borough residents in its Facebook status update. “This will greatly reduce the chances of items being taken from your vehicle. Also avoid keeping valuables inside your vehicle, or at least keep them out of sight.”
Residents who see any activity that appears to be suspicious are encouraged to call the department at 610-970-6570.
Thefts from unlocked vehicles appear to be a problem in an even wider area. Lower Pottsgrove police reported similar incidents earlier this month.
