The South Keim Street bridge still needs millions of dollars in repairs if it is to be re-opened, 12 months after being declared unsound. The good news, a local engineer has reported, is that all affected municipalities agree the bridge is “important.”

A motorcyclist said to be traveling at speeds exceeding 100 miles an hour crashed Sunday into a guard rail on U.S. Route 422 near Sanatoga. That was followed by a second crash of three vehicles trying to avoid the first incident.

Lower Pottsgrove commissioners publicly recognized Monday that a state Senate bill, proposed to regulate quarry operations, could have a significant local impact. They don’t like its implications, and decided to ask Pottstown area legislators to fight it as well.

Outside pressure seems to be building for Gov. Tom Corbett to say whether he will act on a special commission’s recommendations to increase transportation funding in Pennsylvania. One proposal so far deemed dead-on-arrival?: tolling U.S. Route 422.
