422 Alleged Speeder Stopped; Marijuana Found

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – A 24-year-old Pottstown man is scheduled for a preliminary hearing today (Friday, April 12, 2019), according to court records, for marijuana possession and other charges after Lower Pottsgrove police said they clocked him speeding Sunday (April 7) on U.S. Route 422 at more than 100 miles per hour.

Brent Robert Smith, of Summer Lane, faces counts of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, hazardous disorderly conduct, exceeding a speed limit, and reckless driving, records show. The hearing is set for the Pottstown courtroom of Magisterial District Justice Edward C. Kropp Sr.

Township police Ofc. Scott Bond was on patrol Sunday at 5:23 a.m. when he observed a vehicle traveling at 104 mph on 422 near mile marker 176.2, and subsequently conducted a traffic stop, according to Lower Pottsgrove’s CrimeWatch website.

“During his interaction with the driver,” the website added, “Bond observed the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle produced marijuana and a paraphernalia. Smith was taken into custody.
