POTTSTOWN PA – Reading PA artist Nettie Price, whose colorful paintings of animals and nature decorate a variety of products sold internationally, will be a guest speaker and painting instructor in both children’s and adult events scheduled for Feb. 28 (2019; Thursday) at the Pottstown Regional Public Library, 500 E. High St.
- These events have been added to The Post Publications calendar.
Price is a former math and science teacher who began painting what she calls “quirky cats and dogs” to make her students smile. The results were gratifying, according to her website, and Price offered small paintings for sale online, on consignment, and through selected wholesalers and retailers. She left teaching in 2012 to focus full-time on growing her business.
In the library, Price will conduct a “meet the artist” class for children Feb. 28 at 3:30 p.m., according to Youth Services Coordinator Lisa Kraljevich. Children ages 8—14 can learn what it’s like to make a living as an artist, and also will paint a whimsical heart on canvas. Space for the event is limited, and advance registration is required. A $5 donation is suggested. Call the library at 610-970-6551.
Also on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m., Price will hold an after-hours adult painting class. Tickets are available now at the library’s front desk. For $35, adults will receive materials needed to paint an 16 x 20 canvas, as well as an appetizer and drinks.
Price’s 25-foot-long traveling art gallery, dubbed “Nettie’s Sparkling Art Mobile,” will be parked at the library for both events, as well as for public shopping for canvas prints and gift items for sale.
The events also will serve to introduce the library’s new bookmark vending machine (above and at top) created by Price from re-purposed cigarette machines. Buyers receive a package of two magnetic bookmarks for $3, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the library.
