POTTSTOWN PA – A 24-year-old Pottstown man has been arrested as a suspect in an alleged stabbing that borough police said occurred Thursday (Jan. 3, 2019) before 11:55 p.m. at 546 N. Franklin St. The victim, a Gilbertsville man, received emergency surgery for his injuries and as of Friday morning (Jan. 4) was reported by the police department to be in critical condition in Reading Hospital.
Arrested was Sean Emmell, a borough resident whose home address was not provided. Pottstown police, in a statement, said he currently is awaiting preliminary arraignment on charges of criminal attempt at homicide, aggravated assault, and related offenses. The department also said its officers identified a witness to the incident.
Emmell was taken into custody without incident, police said.
The victim is said to be Joshua Shupard, 20, who suffered a stab wound to the chest. His Gilbertsville home address also was not provided. Police credited a nearby resident, Joel Glover-Nation, for coming outside after having heard the disturbance, discovering Shupard, and rendering assistance. Goodwill Ambulance personnel arrived and assumed care of the victim, then transported him to Reading, they added.
