POTTSTOWN PA – All six school districts within The Post Publications’ coverage territories – Pottstown, Pottsgrove, Spring-Ford Area, Perkiomen Valley, Boyertown Area, and Phoenixville Area – delayed opening their buildings today (Friday, Nov. 16, 2018) by two hours due to inclement weather and variable road conditions, each announced.
Western Montgomery County was socked Thursday (Nov. 15), for about a 12-hour period beginning at 11 a.m., by a Nor’easter storm that tore across most of Pennsylvania as it headed north up the Atlantic coast. It brought heavy snowflakes and sleet with accumulations ranging from between 2 and 5 inches. They quickly made roads icy and impassable, and travel dangerous. That was followed by warming temperatures and rain.
A majority of districts later determined they had not reacted quickly enough to the changing conditions. Many buses, returning students home after schools closed early, were late in delivering passengers … some by as much as several hours. A few also had school-related meetings planned for Thursday night that also were canceled and re-scheduled.
“Pottstown School District, 2 HOUR DELAY; Friday, November 16, For all Students and Staff.” Additionally, “The School Board meeting scheduled for … Thursday, November 15 has been postponed due to impending inclement weather and will be rescheduled to Monday, November 19, 7 PM in the high school cafeteria.”
