Association Certifies Two MCCC Career Paths

POTTSTOWN PA – Students graduating from Montgomery County Community College programs as medical assistants and medical office assistants now can earn national certifications when their finish their training.

Both prepare students to work as a medical assistant in physicians’ offices, hospitals and other health care facilities. Courses can be completed in about nine full-time months, or on part-time basis depending upon students’ schedules, the college stated.

The National Healthcare Association recently approved the programs, giving graduates the chance to take national examinations to certify them as either a certified clinical medical assistant, a certified medical administrative assistant, or both.

“These credentials will give our graduates an advantage when they apply for jobs,” according to Kathy Schreiner, college director of medical office professions. Medical assistant and medical office assistant employment is projected to grow 29 percent from 2016 to 2026, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.
