Middle School Student Part Of PA Sports History

POTTSTOWN 6TH-GRADER A HISTORY-MAKER – Savannah Richards (above), a sixth-grade student in Pottstown Middle School, helped make sports history in Pennsylvania during the weekend (March 23-24, 2018). She was a competitor in, and won a silver medal in her 75-pound weight class of, the all-female Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championship tournament, district Director of Community Relations John Armato reports. The event, held in Wilkes-Barre PA, represented the first year the organization held a state championship for girls, it said. Richards recorded two pins on her way to the finals in her class, and held second place (below) following what Armato called “a hard-fought match.” He labeled Richards as “one of the pioneers of female wrestling in this country.”
