Saturday Brought New Ways To Buy Beer

HARRISBURG PA – Beer distributors across Berks and Montgomery counties – in Boyertown, Oley, greater Pottstown, and elsewhere – had the opportunity Saturday (Jan. 14, 2017) to begin offering six-packs and growler refills to their thirsty consumers, thanks to earlier state Legislature passage of changes to Pennsylvania’s beverage laws.

The changes, according to state Rep. Marcy Toepel of the 147th District, also allows retail licensees to:

  • Start selling Sundays at 9 a.m., instead of 11 a.m.;
  • Sell liquor in shatterproof containers before, during and after professional and amateur athletic events, in the same manner currently permitted for malt or brewed beverage sales; and
  • Sell wine at approved grocery stores.

The legal revisions are intended to make beer, wine and liquor sales more convenient to consumers, Toepel said. Her district includes New Hanover, Douglass, and Upper and West Pottsgrove townships.
