Story-Telling Sessions Return To Boone Homestead

BIRDSBORO PA – “Fireside Tales,” a story-telling experience offered annually at the Daniel Boone Homestead, 400 Daniel Boone Rd., returns for two sessions in January and February, museum Director Amanda Machik reports.

Storytelling was a great way for families in the 18th Century to pass the time during long, dark winters. During its Fireside Tales, the Homestead staff and volunteers will read stories Jan. 18 (2015; Sunday) and Feb. 15 (Sunday), both beginning at 2 p.m. in the rustic atmosphere of the Wayside Lodge on the grounds.

The stories, geared toward young children from ages 4 – 8 and their families, will have different themes. On Jan. 18, children will hear the exciting tale of Pennsylvania’s founder William Penn; on Feb. 15, about colonial adventure.

A fire will be burning in the lodge fireplace, but it could still be chilly inside. Guests should dress warmly and bring a extra blankets or quilts to snuggle under. A suggested donation of $2 per childis requested. Complimentary hot chocolate and cookies will also be provided. Self-guided tours of the historic area and guided tours of the Boone House will be available for an additional fee during the afternoon.
