Crowd Loved Regional Wrestling Finals In Pottstown

REGIONAL WRESTLING FINALS ATTRACT A CROWD – The District 1 Wrestling Class AAA South East Regional finals were held Saturday night (March 2, 2013) beginning at 6 p.m. at Pottstown Senior High School, 750 N. Washington St., and attracted a huge crowd, Twitter photographer and Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Joey Cranney wrote. “We’ve got a full gym at Pottstown 20 minutes before the regional finals are scheduled to start,” he wrote in a caption accompanying the photo above. Mike Cabrey, who covered the tournament for The (Lansdale PA) Reporter newspaper, captured a shot posted to Instagram, below, of wrestlers warming up before their matches began. Wrestlers from Owen J. Roberts, Perkiomen Valley, Boyertown and Methacton all turned in championship performances by the night’s end, The (Pottstown PA) Mercury reported Sunday, and will be among nine Pioneer Athletic Conference qualifiers at the PIAA state championships that start Thursday (March 7) in Hershey PA.

Pottstown School District spokesman John Armato, who supplied the photo at bottom, said the two-day event drew wrestlers, coaches, and fans from more than 60 regional schools, with a total attendance topping 4,500 people. He credited Athletic Director Pat Connors and his assistant, Brett Myers, “for their leadership and effort in organizing the efforts of an outstanding staff of workers. We received many comments on the professionalism of our staff, the quality of our facilities and the efficiently-run event.”
