Pottstown’s CROP Hunger Walk Planned For Oct. 14

Pottstown's CROP Hunger Walk Planned For Oct. 14POTTSTOWN PA – The emergency food pantry of the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities will receive 25 percent of all funds raised during the annual CROP Hunger Walk, which is scheduled for Oct. 14 (2012; Sunday) beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 750 N. Evans St., event coordinator the Rev. Mary Etta Mest said Friday (Aug. 10).

The fund-raiser is one of hundreds held yearly across the country “with the goal of ending hunger in the world,” Mest said. The Cluster’s pantry, located at 57 N. Franklin St., is an integral part of that effort; it helps meet the added nutritional needs of families in the greater Pottstown area who might otherwise lack enough food for their daily meals.

CROP walkers are inter-generational volunteers who agree to cover either a 1- or 5-mile route, with their steps supported by financial pledges from family members, friends, neighbors and others. More walkers are being sought, Mest said. Those interested in volunteering can call her at 610-659-2775, or send her an e-mail, here.
