POTTSTOWN PA – Montgomery County’s dog owners now have an online option in buying their pets’ 2012 dog licenses, in addition to the earlier choices of buying them by mail or in person at locations in Pottstown, Limerick and Pennsburg.
Montgomery County Treasurer Jason Salus, whose office by law is also responsible for issuing licenses and registrations – including dog licenses – on behalf of the state, said dog owners can apply, print and pay for this year’s licenses by credit card or virtual check, here. Salus’ office will mail accompanying tags for your dog’s collar within three days of application and payment.
Licenses also are available to be purchased from agents at:
- Pottstown Roller Mills, 625 Industrial Hwy., Pottstown PA;
- Open Line, 452 Penn St., Pennsburg PA; and
- Limerick Veterinary Hospital, 345 W. Ridge Pike, Limerick PA.
The cost of an annual license for a spayed or neutered animal is $6.45; an addition $2 fee is charged for online payments. Licenses are required for all dogs age 3 months or older. Fines for unlicensed dogs run as high as $500, Salus said.
Dog licenses provide funds to help the state pay for administration of its rabies law, dog control facilities, dog bites investigations, and kennel licensing enforcement and inspections.
“We want to make sure that Montgomery County is a healthy place for our pets to call home. Getting your dog licensed will help us ensure that canines from Conshohocken to Cheltenham and puppies from Pottstown to Perkiomenville will have a safe environment to live and play,” Salus added.
Traditionalists can still get licenses by mail: send a completed application and check to the county Treasurer’s Office – Licensing, P.O. Box 311, Norristown PA 19404.
