Nothing Like A Potato Dumpling Visit To Spice Up Lunch

PIEROGIE MAN PAYS A VISIT – How do you convince kids to try something different for lunch? Maybe invite a special guest, the folks in the food service department at the Pottstown School District, Pottstown PA, reasoned. That’s why Pierogie Man, the mascot of Mrs. T’s Pierogies – a company that manufactures and markets the potato-filled dumpling of Polish origin – made an appearance last week (Dec. 19, 2011) in the cafeteria of Franklin Elementary School. Food Services Director Kim Holsonback said students there were served mini-pierogies that were made with whole grain flour and were low in sodium and fat content. The district, she said, “is trying to provide students with health lunch choices that are high in nutritional value.”
