Sheetz Offers New Wellness Center To Its Employees

BIRDSBORO PA – Sheetz Inc., a family-owned convenience store chain that operates in Birdsboro PA, said Thursday (Nov. 10, 2011) that it would create a new employee health and wellness center inside a 10,000-square-foot distribution facility it is building in Claysburg, 20 miles south of Altoona. The center is scheduled to open in Fall 2012, and contain fitness equipment and a quarter-mile exercise track.

“Like many companies across the country, we recognize that having healthier employees helps us manage our health care costs, improves our productivity, and sets Sheetz apart as a great place to work,” said Bill Young, Sheetz’s director of compensation, benefits and risk management.

By combining the fitness center with a menu of health and wellness services, the company “can work with employees who may be at risk for disease, such as heart disease and diabetes, to help them lower those risks and lead healthier and longer lives,” Young added.

Sheetz reported it currently ranks on “Best Places to Work” lists in Ohio and North Carolina, and has been on a similar list in Pennsylvania for eight consecutive years.
