POTTSTOWN PA — An alleged armed robber was shot by Pottstown police early Saturday morning (Oct. 22, 2011) outside a convenience store on North Charlotte Street in the borough. He fled the area and broke into a nearby church, where he hid for several hours before being discovered and arrested, The (Pottstown PA) Mercury newspaper reported Sunday (Oct. 23).

The Mercury in its Sunday edition said Montgomery County First Assistant District Attorney Kevin R. Steele confirmed the man taken into custody by police was Pottstown resident David Lamar Hill, 25. Steele confirmed Pottstown police were conducting surveillance in the area of the Turkey Hill store in the 700 block of North Charlotte near Wilson Street, in response to several recent robberies, when they shot Hill.
