A.D. Moyer Lumber Consolidates To Two Locations

POTTSTOWN PA – A continually bumpy local economy forced the area’s oldest lumber and building supplies company, A.D. Moyer Lumber Inc., to close its Douglassville location 11 days ago and consolidate operations at its two remaining sites in Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township and Gilbertsville, the company announced.

“The management team at A.D. Moyer worked collectively over the past several months to make a comprehensive evaluation of our business,” said co-owner Scott Moyer. “We have determined that a strategic restructuring of these operations will help us to ultimately better serve our customers in the greater Douglassville area as well as our entire Tri-county service area,” he said.

The Douglassville store closed Sept. 23 (2011) “in response to the prolonged downturn in the housing market,” Moyer noted. There’s outside hope for a future return, though: the company will hold on to and maintain the Douglassville property, he added, to keep “options open for future business operations.”

Employees from Douglassville have been reassigned to same or similar duties in the Lower Pottsgrove store, 300 Armand Hammer Blvd., Pottstown PA, or the Gilbertsville store, 1200 E. Philadelphia Ave. A.D. Moyer also is making significant capital improvements to both remaining locations, including repaving, building maintenance, and equipment upgrades “to continue its exceptional level of service for all customers” Moyer said.

A.D. Moyer, a family -owned and -operated business, opened in 1939 and employs more than 55 part-time and full-time staff members. It offers free delivery on most sales.
