Manor Plans ‘Iron-Working And River’ Walking Tour

Pottsgrve Manor in Pottstown

POTTSTOWN PA – A fun and informative walking tour from Pottsgrove Manor, 100 W. King St., to Pottstown’s Riverfront Park on College Drive along the Schuylkill River, and back again, will be conducted by the manor’s historic site supervisor on Sept. 24 (2011; Saturday) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The walk starts at the West King Street museum that was the home of colonial ironmaster and Pottstown founder John Potts. Along the way, walkers will learn about the history and importance of the Manatawny Creek and the Schuylkill River to the iron-working business of the Potts family. A picnic lunch along the river will be provided. An optional guided tour of the manor will be offered when the group returns.

A $15 program fee will be charged, and advance registration by Sept. 20 is required. Participants will be given a choice of boxed lunches when they register. Walkers are encouraged to bring water, wear sunscreen and a hat, and wear comfortable shoes. The route consists of about 2 miles of paved trail and sidewalk. Its terrain is mostly flat, with one set of stairs.

For more information or to register, call 610-326-4014.

Pottsgrove Manor is operated by Montgomery County under the direction of the Parks and Heritage Services Department.
